Mel’s Monday Musings: June 3, 2019

Hi, y’all!

It was 48 degrees (F) this morning when I first went outside. Forty-eight. In JUNE. My mind was blown (but I really didn’t mind a bit; I know the heat will find us eventually). The rest of the week is supposed to be warmer, with highs into the mid-70s in another day or two.

How’s the weather where you are?

This weekend, DH and I went to a little town in the Adirondacks to try “rail biking.” It’s quite the adventure, and who could complain about “leg day” with views like these??

Thanks to Revolution Rail Co. for the great morning.

The kids have a few more weeks of school, and all of the awards ceremonies, moving-up ceremonies, field trips, end-of-year tests, and end-of-year celebrations are piling up. Wheeew! I think I’ll be happier than they are when everything is over for the summer! Trying to remember who needs what and where people need to be when can be exhausting. Thank goodness for calendar apps.

I am also considering going back to work full-time at the end of summer, once everyone is settled into the new school year. We could use the help financially (Tarot, art, and poetry all together aren’t scraping up much…y’all go buy some stuff so I can stay a full-time artist, k?), as much as I don’t think I’ll enjoy anything else. You never know. And ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes. I’m tired of stressing over heat bills and worrying about potential medical expenses. I’m trying to come up with other art/writing services that might prevent the drudgery I foresee, but nothing so far…and honestly, who am I to escape and get to do what I really love when most other people don’t?

(Consider this a sharp condemnation of the lack of value our society puts on art and artists. A resounding FUCK YOU to everyone who thinks poets/artists/etc. should work for exposure, or that original, handmade items aren’t worth a fair price when you can get cheap shit from China.)

Anyway, how’s it going in your corner of this beautiful, crazy world?
