Mel’s Monday Musings: August 30, 2021

Friends, I am tired. I am making masks again, but they just canceled the in-person open houses for all grades of my kids’ school district, so I don’t know what that’s going to mean for in-person school starting on the 7th.

I am tired of making masks; I am tired of cancellations. I know we’re lucky we haven’t lost anyone to this damned virus (yet) but so many people can’t say the same. A friend of a friend just lost her baby sister this weekend. Sis was not vaccinated.

It looks like Germany is about to disallow the willfully unvaccinated in most public spaces. Why can’t we do that?? Why do we have to put up with the verbal abuse for wearing masks and getting the vaccines? These MAGAts call us scared. But…if THEY are so scared of an “untested” (wrong) vaccine, or so bothered/afraid of wearing a piece of cloth over their faces…why don’t THEY stay at home with their fears?

Why do those of us who have done everything humanly possible to kick this virus to the curb or at least get control of the spread of it, have to pay the price for those who just don’t care about anyone other than themselves?

I hate the concept of Othering; I’ve spoken about it several times on this blog over the years. But here…I don’t think we have many other viable options, short of mandating the vaccine at the federal level.

And if you truly don’t care if you get anyone else sick, potentially causing them to DIE, frankly, fuck you. Stay away from civilization because you are not a civilized human being.

Let the rest of us carry on.

(Sorrynotsorry…I told you I was tired. Weary might be a better word. But I will keep fighting to protect my community and my loved ones — and yes, even the idiots who won’t get the shot — by doing everything in my power to ensure that I do not catch or spread the virus, as I have been for the past 18 months or so. This is a marathon, not a sprint. I just wish everyone else would start running too.)
